Hawaiian Hitfest Homepage

We are very excited about bringing back one of the largest tournaments from last season. The Hawaiian Hitfest began as a unique new idea in 2004 and was played at the Basehor Field of Dreams with just 45 teams.  It was a tournament that began with accentuating the fun and camaraderie of sport.  In the renditions since, we have seen unbelievable growth into a 300+ team tournament played at multiple venues across the KC Metro Area.  This event has grown in terms of size, but also competitiveness.

For those of you that have played in this event in the past, you have undoubtedly run into Josh Williams.  This was always his favorite event of the season, and his dream was to always make sure that we had NOBODY on the waiting list and get every kid a chance to experience the fun of the Hawaiian Hitfest.  With Josh's passing, we have picked up the torch and are working to blow this event up Josh Williams MSP LOVE style.

Final Placings

Once the event is completed, the usssa.com system must be manually configured to show the final placings and award the correct amount of corresponding points.  Until this is done, the results may not show as final or be correct.  We do this process for each event on Monday, which may take up through midnight on Monday to completely update and reflect accurate results.

MSP Love Award

What is MSP LOVE AWARD? For you that have attended our themed events in the past you probably remember the Game MVP medals we give after each pool games. This is always a great chance for us to award a deserving player for their outstanding play during that game. As much as we love to award these accomplishments we are wanting to take this a different direction for the Hawaiian Hitfest.

Many of you know we lost a vibrant part of the MSP staff, Josh Williams in August of 2012 and he had phrased the slogan “MSP LOVE”. It has several different meanings but the one that sticks out the most to us is his want and desire to share LOVE to players, coaches, and fans. We have adopted “MSP LOVE” as part of our mission statement as a way to always remember Josh but to also share that love with the community.

In youth sports we spend so much of our time chasing the performance based accomplishments and we believe miss the impact youth sports can have on a player. Most of the time we believe this is positive impact but can be negative if the wrong message is sent from us adults as coaches and fans. That is why we are wanting to award a player after each pool game with a “MSP LOVE” medal. Some of the attributes to look for when handing out this medal should emphasize on the following:

A kid that displays outstanding character on the field. (examples of character is but not limited to love, fun/joy, kindness/goodness)

  • An extraordinary example of sportsmanship
  • An example of respect
  • An example of hustle

Our goal with this award is to not award the best athlete or best player on the team but to award these kids for other areas in life that we feel are most important. At the conclusion of each pool game you play you will award a kid from the opposing team with a “MSP LOVE” medal. The opposing team will do the same for a kid on your team.

We thank you for your support in “MSP LOVE”!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our MSP Love and Walking Beside campaigns are teaming up with the KC Rescue Mission  (KCRM) for the weekend of May 17-19, 2013. We will be doing a Collection Drive contest for each event, where teams will bring in packages of crew socks. The team with the most packages of socks donated will be the winner. Our goal for this drive is to collect enough packages of socks to provide for the KCRM's Men's and Women's homeless shelters for the ENTIRE YEAR! We ask everyone to get involved with this great cause because such a simple gesture of donating socks will mean the world to these people in need. We currently have 600 teams total in all of our events for the May 17th weekend. If each kid on every team would bring one package of 6 pairs of socks, that would be close to 36,000 pairs of new socks to go towards this amazing cause. There will be a collection drive going on Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 9 am- 7 pm for every tournament.

The contest aspect of the collection drive will be simple. Each team will be awarded a single point for each pair of socks that they donate. For example, a pack of six pairs of socks will get you team 6 points, whereas a pack of twelve pairs of socks will get you 12 points towards the contest. There is no limit to the number of socks that your team can donate, so please reach out to friends, family, coaches, players, and anybody who would like to help contribute to this amazing cause. The contest will be between all of our teams for the entire weekend and prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams that collect the most points during the collection drive. The prizes will be as follows:

1st PLACE: $500 MSP Gift Certificate

2nd PLACE: $300 MSP Gift Certificate

3rd PLACE: $200 MSP Gift Certificate
