For the 2011-12 Season, we are going to offer all of our C level events with an American and National division. We have traditionally offered this split of divisions at our larger events, but feel dividing teams in this manner for the entire season will help create better matchups.
As with any process, this will be a work in progress. One of the things that we are trying to accomplish with this procedure is to get teams into a better competitive balance. The level of play in each of these divisions may change from week-to-week, and teams may not always fall on the same side of that dividing line. But we will use this as a guideline and a way to get teams grouped in a more competitive fashion.
American Division
This is the upper division of the two. Teams that are American Division will include those teams that are 2nd year C teams. If you are participating in the same age group that you were in last season, then as a team, you will be considered an American team. If you are moving in age group, BUT played B level last season, you should also be starting in and looking towards the American Division.
National Division
This division will be more restricted on entries, and teams will be required to show that they are truly a National Division team. We will look at your team's history as well as league information and player history to determine if this division will be the best fit for your team.
Again, these are not hard and fast guidelines, but a way for us to start the process of aligning teams in an effort to get them into a place where they will have the most competitive balance. All teams will be classified as "C" on the USSSA system, but we will ask you to submit your entries with the American/National preference.
If we have an event that does not have a full slate of teams to split the two divisions, the teams may be combined into one division. We will contact you and give you and opportunity to determine if the teams available will provide your team with the appropriate competition.
